About This Artful Life
This Artful Life is an interior design consultancy which places the client at the centre
of everything. We offer bespoke solutions which marries the creative with the
practical. We design and deliver beautiful spaces that meet the needs of everyday
living & that reflect the individuality of each person & property, we work with.
Our services range from an interior re-refresh for one or two rooms, to full
interior design and sourcing for a whole house build or renovation. We are also
able to offer advice on interior space planning, exterior finishes and home styling.
About Emma Sillwood
Emma Sillwood is the founder of This Artful Life. Transforming properties is probably in her DNA, having grown up on building sites alongside her parents who were constantly taking on building renovation projects, long before it was fashionable (and who eventually started one of the UK’s first, and most innovative, exterior architecture practices).
Emma is fundamentally an artist - a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art – whose creative career has taken her via advertising agencies, gallery & artist management while developing her own print making practice. For sixteen years Emma shared her practice with hundreds of students, as the head of an outstanding secondary school Art department. However the growing business recently enabled Emma to resign from the day job to focus solely on her interior design clients.
After the birth of her first baby, Emma took on a powerless shell of a 1920s bungalow, putting in the hands-on graft to turn it into her family home. She brought together a mix of high-quality materials, up-cycling, and clever hacks with inexpensive but stunning finishes to create warm and individual spaces. Soon friends were asking her for interior design advice for their own homes, and following one happy introduction Emma was asked to take on the professional interior design for an entire Victorian renovation. By word of mouth Emma’s client list grew, and This Artful Life was born.
Since that first project Emma has worked on a wide range of projects with an equally wide range of budgets, including a Modernist remodel, a new build eco-house, and an oak-framed manor house, London penthouse apartment; as well as commissions for family living solutions, home-office remodelling and branded business spaces.
